Context
Our home appliances have become much alike the computers we use everyday. The electronics we find inside our computers have permeated all our domestic objects and are allowing us – in the era of Internet of Things – to be able to communicate directly with all of them through a single device. How is this impacting our kitchens, and in particular the oven? I had the chance to experiment over this wonderful topic during the realization of Open Oven, an installation that dissects the oven into its various components and displays them in their exploded form, allowing the exploration of the vast amount of technology inside them, their functions and benefits, as well as experience new product usages and lifestyles.
Responsibilities
As a team, we flanked the Commercial and R&D department of Indesit to understand the technology of their latest product and how to structure and provide it as a value to the final user. I researched over possible application of new sensing systems inside the oven platform, and how they could impact the kitchen lifestyle. After having identified 6 possible new scenarios and verified feasibility by direct testing or involvement of external researchers, I created a user story around them, worked on video storyboard together with the client and in coordination with video makers. This project lead to the signage of 6 provisional patents coming from those scenarios.
